Land, Life and Power:
where is the way of rural residents under government project

For decades, the rural reaches of the New Territories have existed as a quiet tapestry. Villagers supported one another, lived contentedly, and managed the land together. In 2023, following the official announcement of the Northern Link project, the government’s rapid land resumption disrupted this long-standing balance.

 

The student visited areas such as San Tin, Kwu Tung, and Ngau Tam Mei multiple times to speak with local residents. Through these deep conversations, she learned about their views on land resumption methods, compensation, rehousing, and the project’s future. She also interviewed professors, scholars, and independent experts to discuss the problems and challenges facing the project from different perspectives.

 

This project hopes to tell a complete story, encouraging readers to reflect on urban-rural integration within the development process.
